Okay, so I know its been awhile since I posted. I have so many things going on but still, no excuse, right??

One thing that has been taking up a lot of our time is our new puppy Nikko (pronounced Knee-Co)! We have had him for about three months now and he is a darling Yorkie with lots of love to give and well, lots of accidents. I had dogs before, but they were NEVER this hard to train. Of course, there was a concern about him going pee pee all over our cream colored, yes, cream colored carpets, and using harsh chemicals to clean it up, but I was just in luck when I found Clean+Green Eco-Friendly Pet Cleaning Products by Sea Yu. The carpet and upholstery cleaner was just what we needed. It quickly eliminated any odors and left our carpets without any stains what so eva! The nice thing, too, was knowing that it was made from all natural ingredients like water, cane sugar, etc… If you are planning on or already have animals, I would highly recommend this product. Our kids spend a majority of the time on the floor and using harsh chemicals is a big hazard.

Needless to say, we are still working on getting him trained and so if you have any suggestions, I would LOVE to hear them!

Sunscreen Series

Wow, TWO seems to be the magic number today! Although I already posted some very important TOY RECALLS, many of you have emailed Green Adoptions about information on sunscreens, so I had to pass on the information about the Environmental Working Group Series on SUNSCREENS. This is going to be a great informational series broken down into SIX separate posts every Monday. And when you are done with the series, you will be the designated SUNSCREEN EXPERT and can pass along your knowledge to everyone you know. I mean afterall, that is what is so great about being an expert - SHARING WHAT YOU KNOW WITH OTHERS. Happy Sunscreening Series.

Latest Toy Recalls

From the Daily Green, there are TWO latest TOY RECALLS.

JGR Copa LLC of Hollywood, Fla. is recalling about 900 18-inch kick body boards made in China because the logo on the underside of the body boards violates U.S. lead paint standards.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall June 18.
The boards have several designs (three shown here) but it is the green screened "Big Lizard" logo that has excessive lead. Exposure to lead can permanently damage the brains of children, particularly those aged 6 and under.
The board were sold at Beachwear Outlet, Bargain Beachwear, Beach Village Inc., FJ Health & Beauty, Mor USA Inc., Shipwreck-Ocean Jewels, Wal-Mart and Wilcor International Inc. from January 2009 through May 2009 for about $4.
Consumers can return the body boards and request a refund from the place of purchase or, for additional information, call JGR Copa at 800-345-4408 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit http://www.jgrcopa.com/eSite/.

DesignWare is recalling about 92,000 packages of mini sport balls, made in China and sold in the United States and Canada, because the basketballs in the party favor packages have excessive levels of lead.
The recall was announced July 9 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The packages of four mini sports balls were imported by American Greetings Corp., of Cleveland, Ohio. The model number is SPBL 1821 and is printed on the packaging. They were sold at various retailers in the U.S. and Canada from August 2004 through April 2009 for about $3.50.
American Greetings is offering a replacement. For information, call (800) 777-4891 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit http://www.ag.com/.

No Sick Babies!

One memory of our trip to China was when our baby girl became sick one day as we were visiting a kindergarten class. We were all very excited to meet the children and was having lots of fun with them when all of a sudden, our daughter started throwing up everywhere (even on her mommy) uggg.... Needless to say, we decided to hail a taxi (that's a whole other post) and head back to the hotel so we could bath her and call the doctor to come to the room. Turns out, all she had was a little upset stomach and we could have easily given her some gripe water, had we thought about bringing it along.

If you are not familiar with gripe water, it is a home remedy for infants with colic, gastrointestinal discomfort, teething pain, reflux and other stomach ailments. Baby Sprout carries a convenient travel pack that will fit easy into your purse or diaper bag that you can take along, just in case you need it. It is made with natural ingredients and alcohol-free.

7 Chemicals Your Kids Should Avoid

According to the Environmental Working Group, our kids receive more exposure by weight than we adults do to air contaminants, food, water and products we use everyday. They are also more prone to chemical exposure because they cannot fend off chemical assults due to their immature metabolism and organ systems. With that in mind, the EWG offer these tips for kids:

1 Use fewer products and use them less often.
2 Don’t trust the claims. Check ingredients.
3 Buy fragrance-free products.
4 Avoid the use of baby powder on newborns and infants.
5 Do your homework at EWG's Cosmetics Database

Always avoid EWG’s top 7 chemicals of concern for kids:

2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3 Diol
BHA
Boric acid and sodium borate
Dibutyl phthalate & toluene
DMDM Hydantoin
Oxybenzone
Triclosan
